Ann Bednarczyk  (Lakey)
My Great grandparents on my Mother's side were Adam Harker and Ann Gray. My Grandmother Sarah Harker was born Sept 24th 1885 at 20 Second St. She married Edward Young July 6th 1907. My mother Ann was born Dec 4th 1920 at 14 Waggonway St. she married Thomas Lakey April 12 th 1941. They were all miners. I remember them demolishing Waggonway St. I had a lot of friends there. My Grandmother lived at 24 White Mere Gardens. My Dad at 5 Standfield Gardens until he died in 1992.
I lived at Joyce Villas near Ellison's shop and later in Standfield Gardens .I was good friends with Wendy Smith, and spent a lot of time at The Ellison's house and knew her Grandmother who died from beast cancer. They moved to Heworth and the shop was bought and became a wool shop. We were all friends with Kay and Richard Amos. Their parents had the farm. I have some good photos of Wendy and also the allotment across the road where my Dad had his garden. Every important event took place at St Mary's Church, Heworth even my marriage on Aug 9th 1969.
My Dad was a deputy and I think the last one at Wardley Colliery before it closed. He had to go down to check for gas.
