VE Day celebrations at a street party in the lane behind Palmer Gardens.
Some of the people in the photograph are Alice & Maggie Boyd,
Doreen Frecker, Mrs. Lisgo, Barbara Goldsworthy, Rya Gage, & Sadie Cooper.
The figure of Mrs. Laing can be seen in the upstairs window of
her house. Her son Joe re-inforced the air raid shelter using small
triangular bricks from the disused reservoir behind Palmers hall.
Thankfully, only one bomb ever fell on Wardley in WW2. It landed in a
field in front of West Crescent near the railway line. No one was
hurt but there were a few people who dived under the table that day.
